Social Media Tips in the New Year

social media marketing for the new year with ecommerce siteWe are about a month into the New Year and many of us are still digging for creative ways to spark interest in your site and products to generate sales. Below are some various tips to get you rockin' in 2012.

People and search engines enjoy visuals:
As many of you are aware, search engine optimization is a very fluid game. The parameters are always changing and tough to keep up with. There is now much more emphasis on both social media platforms and video moving up in search ranking. If you are comfortable and passionate about your products you could starting doing a video blog. You could ask your customers to provide product reviews or examples of them using their products. You could also simply create a product video using a service like Animoto, which is cheap (they offer a free version) and very professional looking.

Attack the mobile game:
How does your website look on a mobile phone? You should know that smart phone users now make up 46% of all cell phone users in the U.S. with use projected to continue to grow. Making your site mobile friendly could be the difference between making and losing a sale. Making your site mobile friendly can be as simple as writing concise content and using limited images, this article provides some helpful tips.

Clean up your contacts:
I recently spoke to a client of ours who said he had been spending the last few weeks studying and cleaning up his e-mail lists to remove people who aren’t opening or even successfully receiving his e-mails. Sure, it is great to have thousands of contacts, but if only a small percentage of those are opening and engaging with your e-mails, what is the benefit? Purging those who are uninterested can also save you money as most e-mail marketing services are based on the number of contacts you have. Our partner Constant Contact provides very thorough data about your e-mails and who is actually reading and engaging the content within.

Learn about your audience:
As stated above, your e-mail marketing provider should provide some pretty great data into who is engaging with your company. Facebook recently rolled out changes and improvements to their insights for pages that now provide even more information about your users. “People Talking About This” is one of the new metrics for Facebook Pages and represents the total number of people who, over the past seven days, have engaged with your Page in any way. Facebook provides a lot of information including demographics, external referrers, data on your posts and more. Learn more about the new features of Facebook insights here.

As always, strive to create great content on your platforms that people will enjoy and interact with. There is plenty of data out there if you are using social media platforms, e-mail marketing, and of course Cart32. This information can certainly be overwhelming at times but also very helpful in indentifying your audience.
